Nykteri is one of the most classic and historic labels in our portfolio. In the old days the winemakers of Santorini used to press the grapes during the night and that is where the name of the label came from. Today, based on legislation, in order to have the name of Nykteri on our label, there are two mandatory actions that we need to follow. The alcohol content must be 13.5% or more and the wine must stay in barrel for at least 3 months. As for our Nykteri, it is one of the first three labels released by Artemis Karamolegos Winery in 2004. The grapes come from old vineyards with an average age of 100 years and planted at an altitude of 350-400 meters from the vineyards of Pyrgos and Megalochori. A late harvest is followed according to tradition for enhanced body and rich aromatic potential.
Nykteri is a blend and consists of 90% Assyrtiko – 5% Athiri -5% Aidani. We receive only the forage and the fermentation takes place in large volume barrels with a small percentage of new wood. The wine is released from the barrels when it reaches the right balance and remains in the tank to homogenize. Total maturation for 16 months on lees and an additional 4 months in bottle.
It is served at 12-14°C and its aging potential exceeds 10 years.
It pairs perfectly with grilled salmon or pan-fried tuna and can stand up to dishes such as roast lamb and cooked duck. For vegetarians, try it with smoked eggplant salad and pita or pasta with tomato sauce and basil.
